How do tools such as Power BI improve remote working?

The coronavirus pandemic has forced significant changes in the functioning of most companies, including the need to organise remote work for a large part of employees efficiently. With the help of analysts and team managers, modern ICT solutions such as Power BI from Microsoft come to the fore.

What tools support remote work?

Remote work, initially treated with mistrust, has started to gain more and more supporters over time and is likely to become permanent in many organisations. Thanks to it, it is possible to reduce the costs of office functioning and greater freedom in time management by employees.

One of the key factors influencing the effectiveness of teleworking is the implementation of an efficient system of communication, coordination, information exchange and business intelligence (BI). The modern ICT platforms, available regardless of the time and place in which the user is located, provide invaluable services.

The leader of such solutions is Microsoft and its Power BI platform, i.e. a modern system for data analysis from many sources and creating, visualising and publishing reports online.

The solution offered by the Redmont concern has been appreciated by the analytical company Gartner in the prestigious Magic Quadrant 2020 ranking. Particular attention has been paid to the compatibility of Power BI with other databases and web services, the level of customisation of the offered solutions and full technical support for users.

Why is it worth implementing the Power BI platform in the company?

Microsoft Power BI is a comprehensive solution, enabling advanced analysis and combination of data from various sources, their processing, visualisation and presentation in the form of clear, interactive reports. It is ideal for the work of analysts and managers of sales, finance and marketing departments.

Microsoft Power BI is a self-service BI system aimed at end-users, who can build analyses for their own needs. Its operation is supposed to be simpler than that of traditional business intelligence systems. Creating reports is fast, intuitive, and their scope can be freely modified.

With the use of the Power BI tool, we can, among others:

  • automatically download and combine data from internal and external sources (e.g. websites, Facebook, Google Analytics),
  • clean them up and carry out the transformation to the desired form,
  • build advanced models and indicate the links between them,
  • create clear, interactive visualisations of the results – both in the form of traditional charts and the data applied to the map with the possibility to define appropriate filters,
  • present and share online reports with co-workers and clients.

The Power BI platform is available in a free desktop version (data limited to 1GB and no possibility of sharing reports with the option of paying for other functions), a subscription cloud (which is part of the Office 365 service) and a mobile version for iOS, Android and Windows 10.
